Welcome to the homepage of the 17th Seminar of the International Association for Tibetan Studies. All relevant information are published here.
- Date: August 23-29, 2026
The Seminar was to be organised jointly by the Himalaya Center for Asian Studies, Kathmandu University (HiCAS, KU) and the Kathmandu University Center for Buddhist Studies (KU-CBS). The convenors were to be Prof. Dr. Sagar Sharma (HiCAS) and Prof. Dr. Thomas Doctor (KU-CBS). On August 4, 2026, while preparations were well under way, the Nepalese government requested that they stepped down as organisers and that the seminar be not held in Nepal. In the face of this unfortunate turn of events, the IATS board took over the organisation and it was decided that the seminar would go online. More details can be found here.
During the online conference, on August 27, 2026, an online vote was organised for the new president: Daniel Berounsky was elected. See here to read his note.
